SERIES COMES DOWN TO A SHOOT-OUT
This Saturday night, the final round of the Ballistic Performance Parts Masters Series heads to Nyora Raceway which also doubles up as the South Gippsland Shoot-out (previously South Gippsland Classic). Nominations have been strong for this event with 14 nominations including last season’s winner Jason Crawford who will be looking to maximise his points to try and chase down the series leader Trevor Perry. It’s been a close season again this year with 3 drivers still in contention for the championship coming into the final round. Trevor Perry currently sits 47 points ahead of Crawford and Danny Stainer who are tied for points in 2nd, so it’s still anyone’s series. The big question for the night will be strategy, will Perry try to just consolidate points in the heats or will he try to have the series wrapped up before the feature knowing that a dnf could really tighten things up. Crawford and Stainer will need a bit of luck if they are to knock the champ out of the winners seat. You could be wrong for thinking that the racing is only between these 3 drivers on Saturday night, although there is a championship on the line there is also a feature race to be won and there is a good chance that a winner could come from outside the three mentioned. Travis Florimell is a likely candidate having taken it up to all three of these drivers at some point during the season but just hasn’t been able to put it all together for a whole night. We saw glimpses again at Rushworth last round when he looked strong running in third before losing drive with a lap to go and causing one of the more spectacular moments of the season as Crawford and Perry tried to avoid him. Lisa Chalcraft who finished on the podium in this race last season could also prove to be some competition on Satuday night as could Paul Perry who hasn’t raced in Victoria much this season but is a former Australian champ so you can’t count him out.
David Bacon is another in a Perry Bros chassis and he looks likely to take out the B-Grade Championship this season with another strong performance on Saturday night. Sean Denning is the man chasing him for that sitting some 65 points behind he’ll need a bit of luck to go his way if he is to chase him down. Other drivers looking for strong performances this weekend will be Shawn Ward, Mark Blackeby, Troy Buis, Chris Fowler, Andrew Ward and Brandon Turner in what will hopefully be his first meeting. It’s all set to be a ripping night of racing, competition will be fierce, and some drivers have got nothing to lose whilst others will be playing a strategic game which means that anything could and probably will happen. Make sure you get down to see all that action this Saturday night at Nyora Raceway for the South Gippsland Shoot-out, demo derby and the big drop. Racing starts at 5pm.
