Presentation Night Celebrated As Perry, Fowler and Cunningham Take The Big Awards

Last Saturday night the Victorian Grand Prix Midget Club held their annual presentation night at the Shell Club in Geelong and a fun night was had by all who attended. The evening kicked off with some humour via a cartoon on the big screen and then the awards began. Their were numerous gimmick awards handed out for members who had crashed or done something funny throughout the season including the BBQ award handed to Lisa Chalcraft for her scary ride at Redline Raceway when her car caught fire. Scott Laird won the Flipper award for his big dump at Wangaratta at the start of the season and David Bacon won the Lost Chain award. The more serious awards followed with Mark Blackeby taking home the Best New Driver award and Travis Florimell capped off an excellent second half of his season with the Most Improved Driver. Jim Phillips presented his annual Encouragement award this year going to Mark Blackeby while Trevor Perry picked up his trophies for his outstanding wins in the Jason Glynn Memorial and the Ironbark Classic. Best Presented car as voted by the race fans went to the immaculately presented purple rocket of Lisa Chalcraft. While the Victorian Title and Australian Title trophy's were presented to Mark Cecil (Absent) and Trevor Perry respectively. Appreciation awards were handed out to businesses that have continued supporting the club some for a couple of years and others for many years. The big awards on the night though were the President's award which went to Glenn Cunningham for his tireless work as an infield marshal and the prestigious Rod Quarrell Best Clubman award was presented to Chris Fowler by Dennis Myers and the Quarrell family for his media work for the club. The Ballistic Performance Parts Masters Series capped off a superb night of fun with Trevor Perry taking the top honours in a season that came right down to the last meeting of the year. Trevor who had some very dominant races this year thanked all his sponsors, family and fellow competitors and said he is looking forward to next season. Other placegetters in the series went to Lisa Chalcraft in 2nd and Jason Crawford in 3rd while Chris Fowler, Sean Denning and Travis Florimell filled the remaining top 6 positions. President John Fowler said "It was a very successful night and it was great to see all the drivers and members rewarded for the hard work they put in. It was a great night such a big turn out and to see the families come join in the celebrations which is what our club is all about. I enjoyed being able to relax and reflect on what was one of the closest seasons of racing I have seen in my 30 odd years with the club. With new cars currently being built and others upgrading their equipment I'm sure next season is only going to get better and I can't wait to until the first race so we can get back to the track and have some more fun".
